한국 민속의 성격과 특징에 대해 학습하는 교과목이다. 민속은 역사적 발전과정에서 형성되고 축적된 정신이나 문화의 한 유산이다. 따라서 민속은 인간이 사회 구성원으로서 함께 만들고 생활한 삶의 흔적이라 할 수 있다. 민속에는 구비문학을 비롯하여 세시풍속, 민속놀이, 민간신앙 등이 포함된다. 이 교과목은 역사적으로 존재했거나 현재까지 전해지는 민속의 당대적 의미를 밝히고 우리 민족정신의 원류를 찾는 데 목적을 둔다.

is a subject that studies the characteristics of Korean folklore. Folklore is a heritage of spirit and culture that is formed and accumulated during the course of historical development. Accordingly, folklore is a sign of a life that humans have created and lived together as a member of society. The folklore includes oral literature, seasonal customs, folk games and folk beliefs. This subject aims to uncover the historical and contemporary meaning of folklore that has existed and has been handed down to the present day, and to find the origin of our national spirit.
