문화콘텐츠 산업은 완전히 새로운 산업이나 학문 분야가 아니라 기존의 학문 영역들을 유기적으로 얽어주는 연결 시스템으로서 새롭게 대두된 개념이다. 문학의 분야에서도 기존에 연구해 왔던 작품의 인물·공간·소재·서사구조 등이 모두 콘텐츠 개발에 필요한 원천소스로서 그대로 활용이 가능하다. 이 교과목은 우리 고전서사문학과 전통문화 속에서 현대의 문화콘텐츠 개발 소스로 활용할 만한 내용들을 추출하는 능력을 기르는 데 그 목적을 둔다.

The cultural content industry is not a whole new industry or academic field, but a newly emerging concept that binds the existing academic domains systematically. In the field of literature, the characters, space, materials, and epic structure of classical literature can all be used as original sources for content development. This subject aims to develop the ability to extract materials that could be used as the source of modern cultural content development in our traditional language and culture.
